MACAO, Feb. 21(Xinhuanet)-- Macao saw a 17-percent year-on-year rise in the value of retail sales in 2005, according to official statistics issued here Tuesday.

The figures from the Statistics and Census Service (SCS) showed that the total retail sales value stood at 8.78 billion patacas (1.10 billion U.S. dollars) at the end of the year.

The SCS dues the record sales to "the continuous prosperity" in the tourism sector and the region's "stable economic growth."

The SCS figures showed that the value of retail sales of cosmetic and sanitary articles rose 40 percent in 2005, followed by adults' clothing (38 percent), automobile fuels (36 percent), fuels for household use (30 percent) and household electrical appliances (30 percent). Enditem£Ż
