Talk of the Town: Slumdog buzz

After dominating the Golden Globe Awards, "Slumdog Millionaire," the little flick that could, has taken on a favorite status for the upcoming Oscars. But the film may not play as well in India where it was shot and where millions live in the squalor depicted in the film. Some, say Indian audiences won't pay to watch poverty and prefer the colorful sets and extravagant costumes of modern Bollywood.

Israel's animated war film "Waltz with Bashir," a Golden Globe winner, was named to the short list of nine movies up for Oscar nominations in the foreign-language contest.

The Sundance Film Festival kicks off in Park City, Utah this week with a celebration of its 25th anniversary. Founded by Robert Redford, the festival has become America's top launching pad for independent films.

Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Beyonce are among the stars who will take the stage in Sunday's (January 18, 2009) inaugural opening celebration, which will air live on HBO.

"We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial" is the first of official events sponsored by the Presidential Inaugural Committee for Barack Obama's inauguration.
