Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp say getting their Golden Globe nods were surprises.

The stars were in Madrid promoting their romance thriller "The Tourist".

SOUNDBITE: Angelina Jolie, saying (English):

"You never...You make a film because you love it and you never expect anything like that but it's an honour and very nice for the film. And especially if it is a film you're proud of and this is one we're proud of."

SOUNDBITE: Johnny Depp, saying (English):

"You never have any expectations of a nomination and award or anything like that, but at the same time it is nice to be acknowledged for something that you did. That there is a least a group of people who will appreciate what you added to a film. It is always very touching."

Both were nominated for Best Actress and Actor performances respectively in this film, with Depp going up against himself for "Alice in Wonderland".

When asked whether he preferred kissing his "Tourist" co-star or Penelope Cruz, whom he stars opposite in the upcoming Pirates of the Carribean 4, Depp said both.

SOUNDBITE: Johnny Depp, saying (English):

"And we were having dinner just myself, Jerry Bruckheimer, Penelope and Javier and I realised that the only person in the table I hadn't kissed was Jerry Bruckheimer. You know what I mean? So why not both?"

Jolie hit back at criticism on her directorial debut, a love story between a Serbian man and Bosnian woman on the eve of the Balkans conflict.

SOUNDBITE: Angelina Jolie, saying (English):

"The criticisms of very few individuals who never read the script or what the film is about and are only speculating on gossip. The majority of the people were absolutely supportive and it was just an extremely positive experience."

"The Tourist" is based loosely on French movie "Anthony Zimmer" and is the first Hollywood movie for German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.
