LISBON, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of people protested Wednesday outside the Israeli embassy here over the Israeli raid on a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza.

Member of the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation Vitor Silva told the rally: "We are here to denounce and condemn Israel's policy, now also a pirate in the seas."

Among the protestors were the Portuguese Communist Party, the Friendship Association Portugal Cuba, Democratic Intervention, and the Movement for the Rights of the Palestine People and the Peace in Middle East.

In a joint statement, they said they condemned "the inhuman Israeli raid against the ship with humanitarian aid, on May 31, where nine people were killed."

The protestors also demanded the release of the activists detained by Israel and the dismantlement of the Israeli settlements in Palestine.

Israeli navy commandos early Monday morning raided the international aid flotilla and clashed with activists on one of the ships. At least nine activists were killed and dozens were injured in the incident.

This was the second protest in front of the Israeli embassy here since the raid.
