DAMASCUS, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of Palestinian and Syrian demonstrators gathered on Friday in Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp in the outskirts of Damascus, protesting the Israeli assault on the Gaza-bound international aid flotilla.

About 800 angry protestors waved Palestinian, Turkish and Syrian national flags and carried banners with slogans, chanting their outrage against Israel's attack which has prompted the international condemnation.

Israeli military navy attacked early Monday morning the international aid convoy Freedom Flotilla in the international waters with live ammunition and gas bombs, causing more than 10 activists on board killed and dozens injured, according to local media.

The UN Security Council on Tuesday demanded Israel to immediately release the international activists who have been detained, urging Tel Aviv to launch impartial investigation into the incident.
