Malaysia reports 2,881 new COVID-19 cases, 15 new deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 2,881 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Saturday, bringing the national total to 411,594.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that 16 of the new cases are imported and 2,865 are local transmissions.

Another 15 deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 1,521.

Some 2,462 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 380,442 or 92.4 percent of all cases.

Of the remaining 29,631 active cases, 337 are being held in intensive care and 176 of those are in need of assisted breathing. Enditem
