Malaysia's producer price index up 10.6 pct in April

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production rose 10.6 percent year-on-year in April on higher mining index.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement Monday that the growth was driven by the mining index which surged 92.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the agriculture, forestry and fishing index increased by 49.8 percent; manufacturing and water supply indices also rose 3.5 percent and 1.2 percent respectively.

Electricity and gas supply index, however, declined by 0.8 percent.

On a monthly basis, the PPI for local production grew 0.8 percent in April as all sectors registered growths.

Agriculture, forestry and fishing rose 2.8 percent; mining climbed 1.2 percent; water supply increased by 0.6 percent; manufacturing expanded 0.5 percent; electricity and gas supply went up 0.3 percent. Enditem
