CAIRO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit and the UN special envoy to Libya Jan Kubis discussed in Cairo on Wednesday the recent developments and means of settling the crisis in the war-torn country, according to an Arab League statement.

The meeting touched upon political, security and economic conditions in Libya.

"The two diplomats also tackled the Arab League's supporting role in the settlement path in Libya under the auspices of the United Nations," the statement said.

They also reiterated the importance of abiding by the cease-fire deal, ensuring the foreign forces and mercenaries leave Libya, and holding the national elections by the end of 2021.

The Libyan new executive authority is led by Mohamed Menfi, president of the Presidency Council, and new Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.

The Arab League called for a meeting of the pan-Arab body, the United Nations, the African Union and the European Union to exchange views on and coordinate efforts in completing the transitional process and reaching an integrated political settlement in Libya. Enditem
