MADRID, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Real Sociedad remains top of La Liga after a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Granada on Sunday afternoon.
Granada arrived in San Sebastian with several first team players missing due to COVID-19. With just seven first-team players in their starting 11 and without coach Diego Martinez, they put up very little resistance against the league leaders who won thanks to a 21st minute goal from Nacho Monreal and a 26th minute penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal.
Both sides conserved their energy in the closing minutes, but there was further controversy as the visitors ended with just four first-team players on the pitch, when the minimum allowed is five.
Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler scored three penalties as Valencia stunned Real Madrid 4-1 in the Mestalla Stadium.
Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Real Madrid with an excellent finish, but Lucas Vazquez's handball gave Soler his first goal. Although Soler's original spot-kick bounced back off the post, he was able to retake it after VAR spotted a defender encroaching in the area.
Raphael Varane's own goal put Valencia ahead in the 45th minute before a clumsy challenge from Marcelo gave Soler the chance to score his second of the night, and Sergio Ramos' handball saw him complete a hat-trick of penalties.
