ZHUJI, China, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Gao Shiyan's triple-double helped the Shandong Heroes beat the Jiangsu Dragons 100-96 in overtime, while the Zhejiang Lions ended defending champions the Guangdong Southern Tigers' 10-game winning streak in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Saturday.
Facing Jiangsu, Shandong overcame a slow start and rallied from a 16-point first-quarter deficit to stun their rivals, ultimately taking the match into overtime, where Lester Hudson hit a clutch 3-pointer and added free throw to help Shandong seal the win.
Gao Shiyan finished with ten points, 11 rebounds and ten assists for Shandong, who became the first Chinese player to cap a triple-double effort in past 1,037 days of the league. Tao Hanlin battled through foul trouble to get 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Big collective effort that didn't bring a victory for Guangdong, while seven players were in double-digits in a 139-131 loss to Zhejiang Lions.
Zhejiang coasted through the first half, but Guangdong bounced back when Marshon Brooks found his hot hands, scoring 17 points in the final period.
The Zhejiang Lions needed 21-year-old guard Zhu Junlong, who scored 21 on 7-of-8 shootings, for plenty of help, hitting key free throws to close out the win.
In their game against the Shenzhen Aviators, Shanxi Loongs star Jamaal Franklin elbowed He Xining in the third quarter which drew an ejection from referee, who had 28 points and 12 rebounds before exiting.
Without Franklin, Shanxi's squad wasn't enough to stay in front of high-powered Shenzhen, especially when Askia Booker had a great performance with a game-high 34 points. They erased the deficit in the third before holding off Shanxi 112-107.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Trae Golden, Andrew Nicholson and Wang Zhelin combined for 73 points and 20 rebounds as the Fujian Sturgeons downed the Beijing Ducks 124-91 for their first victory this season. The Zhejiang Golden Bulls crushed Sichuan Blue Whales 130-99, while Sichuan rested their key player Hamed Haddadi.
Next on the round, the Xinjiang Flying Tigers will face Qingdao Eagles on Sunday night, while the Tianjin Pioneers are to play against the Beijing Royal Fighters. Enditem
