LONDON, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Premier League side Arsenal on Wednesday confirmed their agreement with Real Madrid to take the Norwegian midfielder Martin Odegaard on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old asked to leave Real Madrid frustrated with his lack of first team opportunities at the club after being recalled after just one year of a two-year-loan at Real Sociedad.

He scored seven goals and gave nine assists in 36 appearances at the San Sebastian based club, helping them to reach the final of last season's Copa del Rey, but after returning to Madrid he has played less than 400 minutes first team football in nine appearances.

Arsenal held off competition from several Premier League sides, as well as Real Sociedad, who were keen to take Odegaard back to San Sebastian.

He flew to London on Monday for a medical check before completing the move, which does not include an option to make the transfer permanent.

"It's great that we have been able to get Martin to come with us until the end of the season, he's a player we all know well," said Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.

"He is young, but he has been playing in the elite for a long time. Martin will give us quality in attack and we are looking forward to having him in our plans until May," he added.

The youngster is Arsenal's second signing of the January window, after the club secured the services of Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan on a six-month loan deal.
