MEXICO CITY, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Mexican midfielder Andres Guardado has expressed a desire to compete in his fifth FIFA World Cup as he seeks to tend to unfinished business in football's showpiece competition.

The 34-year-old, who has played in every World Cup since the 2006 edition in Germany, said he is driven to advance beyond the last 16 for the first time in Qatar next year.

"I feel that I have outstanding issues with my national team," Guardado told Betis TV. "I have gone to four World Cups and each time we have been knocked out in the round of 16. I would love one more opportunity to see if we are able to break that barrier and achieve that goal."

"It's not just about making it to the fifth game. We hope to go even further and I'd like to be a part of it. I'm not going to hide the fact that it's my goal. But when you get to this stage of your career you have to be patient and take things week by week."

Guardado has been capped 164 times for Mexico, scoring 28 goals. He joined Real Betis in 2017 following spells at PSV Eindhoven, Bayer Leverkusen, Valencia, and Deportivo La Coruna. Enditem
