Rincon leads Venezuela squad for World Cup qualifiers

CARACAS, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Torino midfielder Tomas Rincon will lead Venezuela's national squad for 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Brazil, Ecuador and Chile, the Venezuelan Football Federation said on Friday.

Lens goalkeeper Wuilker Farinez, Granada forward Darwin Machis, New York Red Bulls midfielder Cristian Casseres and Toronto FC playmaker Yeferson Soteldo were also included in the 28-man squad.

But there was no place for Everton forward Salomon Rondon, who stayed in England at the request of the Premier League club because of the country's COVID-19 quarantine requirements.

Manager Leonardo Gonzalez also left out Josef Martinez, Jefferson Savarino and defender Mikel Villanueva because of injuries.

Venezuela will meet Brazil and Ecuador in Caracas on October 7 and 10, respectively, before facing Chile in Santiago on October 14.

The Vintotinto are currently last in the 10-team South American zone qualifying group with four points from nine matches.

Defenders: Roberto Rosales, Ronald Hernandez, Pablo Bonilla, Jhon Chancellor, Adrian Martinez, Nahuel Ferraresi, Josua Mejias, Christian Makoun, Oscar Gonzalez and Daniel Carrillo.

Tomas Rincon, Junior Moreno; Bernaldo Manzano, Edson Castillo, Cristian Casseres, Jose Martinez, Eduard Bello, Yeferson Soteldo, Adalberto Penaranda and Darwin Machis.
