TRIPOLI, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Stephanie Williams, acting special representative of the UN Secretary General (ASRSG) in Libya, on Wednesday convened the second meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) to discuss the selection mechanism of Libyan executive authority.

A number of proposals about the selection mechanism and the nomination procedures of the executive authority were presented and discussed, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said in a statement.

Williams expressed her admiration to the "very constructive and collaborative discussion of the proposals," and emphasized the urgency to break the current impasse and expedite the unification of the executive authority, the statement said.

The participants agreed to continue the discussion in the coming days and to meet in-person next week in Geneva.

The UNSMIL on Saturday announced the establishment of the advisory committee, whose mandate "will be strictly time-bound and its main mission shall be to discuss outstanding issues related to the selection of a unified executive and to put forward concrete and practical recommendations upon which the plenary shall decide".

Williams held the first virtual meeting of the committee on Monday to discuss its mandate, its tasks, expected outcomes, and timeframe for its work.

During the LPDF meeting held on Nov. 7-15, 2020 in Tunisia's capital Tunis, 75 Libyans representing the social and political spectrum of the Libyan society discussed a political roadmap to achieve lasting peace in the war-torn Libya.

The participants agreed to hold general elections in Libya on Dec. 24, 2021. They also voted on a mechanism to select a unified executive authority. Enditem
