LUANDA, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The Attorney General of Angola, Helder Pitta Gros, on Tuesday said he denies receiving any direct orders from the President of Angola to take actions, stressing that the Attorney General's Office (PGR) enjoys autonomy in relation to the other powers of the state.

"In the exercise of criminal prosecution, the Attorney General's Office does not follow any instructions, guiding itself by the criteria of strict legality and objectivity," Gros said.

"There is no selectivity criterion in the PGR," Gros said, regarding the accusation by some leaders of political parties and members of the civil society about alleged selectivity by this institution.

The Attorney General reported that since September 2017, the PGR has recovered assets worth 5 billion U.S. dollars. These assets have been voluntarily given back to the state and subsequently certified by a judicial decision, adding that the referred goods are now part of the state's patrimony.

The Attorney General said he considers satisfactory the current stage of the PGR stressing that it is going through a very positive phase of its existence, due to its decisive action in the fight against corruption and impunity.
