LUSAKA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- A college in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, has been closed after 29 students tested positive for COVID-19, an official confirmed Friday.

St. Ignatius College has been closed for two weeks following positive results of COVID-19 infection detected in some students.

The official, who refused to be identified for not being authorized to talk to the press, said officials from the Ministry of Health conducted tests at the college in which both students and staff were tested.

She said the health authorities fumigated the premises and allowed for a two-week closure.

And a letter written to the parents said the college will remain closed from May 21 to June 4.

"We regret to inform you that St. Ignatius will close for two weeks. This comes after a team of Ministry of Health inspectors visited the college for COVID-19 surveillance. The team was invited to the college after three students who were unwell were taken to their homes by parents and later tested positive," read the letter.

The Ministry of Health has warned of a possible third wave as the cold season starts. The authorities have expressed concern that the country has started experiencing a rise in daily cases. Enditem
