KINSHASA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 civilians, including six women, were killed in an road ambush Thursday made by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), local sources said Friday.

A road ambush by suspected ADF militants took place late Thursday on the Mayimoya-Chani-Chani road, north of the city of Oicha, located in the province of North Kivu, according to Beni's civil society.

The attack led to multiple injuries, while several people are still missing. During the attack, a cargo vehicle was set on fire by the assailants.

The military governor of North Kivu, Lieutenant-General Constant Ndima Kongba, has recently rallied forces in Beni to monitor the ongoing military operation against ADF rebels who have been active in the area for decades.

Last week, DRC's Parliament approved, for the fourth time, the extension of the state of siege proclaimed by the DRC President Felix Tshisekedi on May 3 in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu. Enditem
