WINDHOEK, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Namibian Heritage Week kicked off with an official opening in the capital, Windhoek, on Monday.

Themed "Feshene, ke tlhale e e re lomaganang," which means "fashion, the threads that bind us together" in the indigenous Setswana language, the week aims to celebrate Namibia's rich and diverse heritage as well as promote understanding across diverse communities of the communal value of heritage.

Esther Moombolah-Goagoses, director of National Heritage and Cultural Programmes in the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, who opened the event, said that the event would encourage Namibians to keep culture alive and pass on inherited traditions and knowledge.

"The objective is to further promote the safeguarding and protection of all cultural heritage in Namibia irrespective of their religious," Moombolah-Goagoses said.

The event will feature more than 20 programs, including games, bead-making, and cultural exhibitions organized in eight regions across the country. Enditem
