NEW YORK, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 hospitalizations in New York State dropped to 4,491 on Friday, compared with 4,540 one day earlier, tweeted Governor Andrew Cuomo on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the single-day COVID-19 test positivity rate went up to 3.12 percent on Friday from 3.02 percent on Thursday, he said, adding that there were 60 COVID-19 deaths in the state on Friday, compared with 63 one day earlier.

"New Yorkers are following the science and getting themselves and their families vaccinated, and they should be commended for that. But we're still fighting a pandemic and the infection rate is a function of our actions," the governor was quoted as saying in an official release.

"As we expand eligibility, open more vaccination sites and continue our robust testing, it's critical that New Yorkers continue wearing masks and following the public health guidance. It has been a long and difficult road and I know everyone is struggling with COVID fatigue, but we need to stay the course until we actually reach the light at the end of the tunnel," he added.

In another tweet on Saturday, Cuomo said that "32.5% of New Yorkers have received at least one vaccine dose and 19.9% have completed their vaccine series. 249,541 total doses were administered over the past 24 hours. 10,174,773 total doses administered to date."

As of Saturday afternoon, the total COVID-19 deaths in New York State were reported at 50,551, the second worst in the country following the state of California with a death toll of 59,614, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Enditem
