ULAN BATOR, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Mongolian government on Wednesday said it will increase the number of police officers across the country to prevent violence and better protect children.
"In order to prevent any violence and crimes against children, the Mongolian government has decided to increase the number of child protection police officers by 103," Tseden-Ish Ganzorig, head of the government's press office, said in a statement.
As a result, there will be one child protection police officer for every 8,000 children, he said.
Issues related to child protection and family violence have become a hot topic in Mongolia after a nine-year-old girl has recently been beaten to death by his stepfather.
Currently, there is one child protection police officer per around 20,000 children in the country. Enditem
