TOKYO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks increased Wednesday morning as investor confidence was boosted by an overnight rise of the Dow that closed above the 30,000 mark for the first time.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 416.39 points, or 1.59 percent, from Tuesday to 26,581.98, briefly gaining over 2 percent to as high as 26,706.42, its highest intraday level since April 1991.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 20.32 points, or 1.15 percent, at 1,782.72.
Marine transportation, iron and steel, and mining issues comprised those that increased the most by the morning break. Enditem
