Blast kills police officer in S. Afghanistan

TIRIN KOT, Afghanistan, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- A police officer was killed as blast hit Tirin Kot city, the capital of southern Uruzgan province, on Thursday, provincial government spokesman Ahmad Shah Sahel said.

According to the official, the blast took place next to a police officer Hajji Lala's house in Tirin Kot city Thursday afternoon, killing him on the spot.

Hajji Lala was a powerful anti-Taliban commander in the restive Uruzgan province with Tirin Kot as its capital 370 km southwest of Kabul.

The official didn't provide more details.

Taliban militants, who have gained ground in Dehrawad district of Uruzgan province recently, have yet to make a comment. Enditem
