ULAN BATOR, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- A passenger plane chartered by the Mongolian government arrived here from Japan on Monday, bringing back 156 Mongolian nationals, according to Mongolia's State Emergency Commission.

The chartered flight from Tokyo to Ulan Bator landed at the Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport early Monday, and the 156 passengers will be isolated at designated facilities for 14 days, the commission said.

Following its suspension of international commercial flights during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mongolia has taken back over 27,000 nationals via chartered flights, trains and buses from different parts of the world, according to the commission.

As of Monday, Mongolia has reported a total of 993 COVID-19 cases, about half of them locally transmitted.

The Asian country has so far recorded 509 recoveries, but no deaths. Enditem
