JAKARTA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and 14 others were buried under the rubble after a 6.2-magnitude quake jolted Indonesia's West Sulawesi province early Friday, the National Search and Rescue Office said.

"The report from the rescuers on the scene said at least 17 people became the victims of the quake. Pictures showed three bodies under big parts of debris," spokesman of the National Search and Rescue Office Yusuf Latief told Xinhua.

Rescuers were struggling to pull out the victims under the rubble, head of operation unit of the provincial search and rescue office Fathur Rahman told Xinhua via phone.

The quake destroyed hospitals, the main building of the governor office, hotels and houses in the province, said Fajri Mursalin, a rescuer at the provincial search and rescue office.

Rescuers, policemen and volunteers were struggling to extricate the victims trapped under the debris, the rescuer told Xinhua.

Reinforcement of personnel from the search and rescue office in the province have been sent to quake-hit Majene district, which was also impacted by the quake, he said. Enditem
