ISLAMABAD, March 12 (Xinhua) -- An explosion in a coal mine in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province killed at least six miners, officials said on Friday.

Chief Inspector of Mines in Balochistan Shafqat Fayyaz said the rescue operation was completed early Friday after the explosion occurred in Marwar coal mine, some 60 km from Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan province, on Thursday.

Fayyaz said in a statement that six bodies were found while two miners were rescued alive and the mine field has been sealed.

The official said an investigation into the incident has been ordered. Local media reported that initial investigation revealed the explosion was triggered by gas leakage.

The miners killed in the blast belonged to different areas of Balochistan, Fayyaz said, adding that bodies have been shifted to hospital. Enditem
