ULAN BATOR, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Heavy dust and snow storms have been hitting large parts of Mongolia since Friday night, authorities said on Sunday.

The wind speed has reached 18 to 34 meters per second in large parts of the country, including in the western, central and southern provinces, the country's National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring said, warning citizens, especially nomadic herders and drivers, to take extra precautions against possible disasters.

Three western provinces of Mongolia, namely Khovd, Uvs and Bayan-Ulgii, have suffered a power blackout after a 110 KV power line suffered a failure due to the strong winds and dust storms on Saturday night, according to the country's National Emergency Management Agency.

A snow storm is now hitting the country's capital Ulan Bator after a heavy dust storm swept through the city on Sunday morning.

The dust and snow storms will continue to hit the capital city and other parts of the country the whole day. Enditem
