Tokyo stocks close lower on yen's strength, U.S. COVID-19 vaccine concerns

TOKYO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday as buying was impacted by the yen's strength against the U.S. dollar and concerns over Johnson & Johnson's coronavirus vaccine after it was paused by U.S. health authorities due to instances of blood clots.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 130.62 points, or 0.44 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 29,620.99.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 6.37 points, or 0.33 percent, to finish at 1,952.18.

Marine transportation, textile and apparel, and nonferrous metal issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play. Enditem
