India to set up energy park in Gujarat

NEW DELHI, July 13 (Xinhua) -- India's federal new and renewable energy ministry has given its approval to set up 4,750 MW renewable energy park in the western state of Gujarat, officials said Tuesday.

The solar park will be set up by state-run National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Renewable Energy Limited at Rann of Kutch in Khavada in Kutch district, about 270 km west of Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat.

"NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a 100 percent subsidiary of NTPC, has received the go-ahead from the ministry of new and renewable energy to set up 4,750 MW renewable energy park at Rann of Kutch in Khavada, Gujarat. This will be India's largest solar park to be built by the largest power producer of the country," reads an official statement.

According to officials, the NTPC Renewable Energy Limited has been given the go-ahead by the ministry on Monday under Mode 8 (Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park) of Solar Park Scheme.

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited has plans to generate green hydrogen on a commercial scale from the park.

"As a part of its green energy portfolio augmentation, NTPC Limited, India's largest energy integrated company aims to build 60 GW Renewable Energy Capacity by 2032. Currently, the state-owned power major has an installed capacity of 66 GW across 70 power projects with an additional 18 GW under construction," the statement said. Enditem
