Brunei reports 1 new imported COVID-19 cases, 283 cases in total

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Brunei reported one new confirmed COVID-19 case on Friday, bringing the national tally to 283, according to Brunei's Ministry of Health.

The new case is a 38-year-old man who arrived in the country from Indonesia via Singapore on July 9 and showed symptoms on the fourth day after his arrival during his quarantine.

Investigation and contact tracing have found eight close contacts for this case who traveled with him from Indonesia.

The new case is being treated and monitored at the National Isolation Center with 19 other active patients, who are all in stable condition.

The country recorded 436 days without local COVID-19 infections with a total of 142 imported cases.

The Sultanate also reported two recoveries on Friday, with a total of 260 recovered patients and three deaths reported from COVID-19 so far in the country.

The health ministry also said as of Thursday, 106,086 individuals had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, accounting for about 23.4 percent of Brunei's total population.

Brunei previously announced that COVID-19 vaccines including those from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, China's Sinopharm would be administered in the country.

All Brunei citizens and residents, including foreign nationals with a valid identification card, can receive the COVID-19 vaccination for free. Enditem
