Vietnam reports 7,455 new COVID-19 cases, 161,761 in total

HANOI, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam recorded 7,455 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, including 7,445 locally transmitted and 10 imported, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new infections brought the total tally to 161,761 with 1,695 deaths, the ministry said.

Among the community cases, 4,264 were reported in the southern epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 949 in the nearby southern Binh Duong province, and 445 in the southern Long An province.

As many as 46,965 COVID-19 patients have recovered, up 3,808 from Sunday, while 6.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the ministry.

As of Monday, Vietnam has registered a total of 159,489 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 157,919 detected since the start of the latest outbreak in late April, the ministry said. Enditem
