KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's consumer price index (CPI) increased 2.2 percent in September from a year earlier, official data showed Friday.
The CPI recorded an increase for the eight consecutive months since February due to the base effect last year, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.
According to DOSM, the transport group continued to record a double-digit increase since March and edged up by 11 percent in September as compared to a year ago.
The food and non-alcoholic beverages also climbed 1.9 percent.
Meanwhile, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance increased 1.7 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose 0.7 percent; recreation services and culture grew 0.6 percent.
For the third quarter, the CPI rose 2.2 percent from a year earlier.
The core index, which measures all goods and services except volatile items of fresh food as well as administered prices, rose 0.6 percent in September as compared to a year ago. Enditem
