Malaysia reports 5,726 new COVID-19 infections, 84 new deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported another 5,726 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Tuesday, bringing the national total to 2,442,224, according to the health ministry.

Fifteen of the new cases are imported, with 5,711 being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed Wednesday.

Another 84 more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 28,576.

Altogether 5,607 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 2,340,390.

There are 73,258 active cases, 584 are being held in intensive care and 305 of those are in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported 181,160 vaccine doses administered on Tuesday alone and some 77.8 percent of the population have received at least one dose and 73.6 percent are fully vaccinated. Enditem
