SARAJEVO, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The first "Three Minute Thesis" (3MT) science competition held in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH) concluded here with the announcement of the winners and the presentation of the prizes in an online ceremony, the state news agency FENA reported on Wednesday.
The four-month 3MT competition challenges doctoral candidates to hold a compelling presentation on their research projects to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.
The Sarajevo event was organized by the Futures Foundation, the Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology in BiH, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Bosana Foundation.
The jury, consisting of 22 expert professors who were born in BiH and now work in universities across the world, chose the winners from among the 70 doctoral students from 21 universities.
Nudzeim Selimovic, a Ph.D. student from the University of Zurich in Switzerland, won the first prize worth 3,000 euros (3,650 U.S. dollars). His thesis was entitled "On the mass origin and three generations of elementary particles mystery." He used a video game terminology to appeal to younger generations.
Amir Aljovic from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Germany won the second prize of 2,000 euros, and Emina Sunje, a Ph.D. student from universities in Sarajevo and Antwerp in Belgium won the third prize of 1,000 euros. (1 euro=1.22 U.S. dollars) Enditem
