RIGA, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Eighty-four percent of people employed in Latvia's health sector have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, the Baltic country's health authorities informed Wednesday.

This makes health care workers the most extensively immunized group in Latvia where the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines has so far been among the slowest in Europe.

According to data released by the National Health Service, COVID-19 jabs have also been given to 72 percent of care home staff and residents, 46 percent of those over 70 years of age, 55.35 percent of people with chronic illnesses, 50 percent of those aged 60-69 and 60 percent of teachers.

At least one vaccine dose has been administered to 15 percent of adolescents aged 12-15 and to 30 percent of youngsters aged 16-17.

Among seniors over 90 years of age, the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine is just 30 percent, statistics show. Enditem
