German shares drop as Omicron concerns grow

FRANKFURT, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Germany's DAX blue-chip index declined more than one percent Thursday as concerns grew over the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

The DAX index went down 209.56 points, or 1.35 percent, to close to 15,263.11 points.

European online food-delivery service Delivery Hero was the biggest loser among the blue chips, down by 7.21 percent, followed by E-commerce company Zalando and semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies, which lost 4.98 percent and 4.36 percent respectively.

Housing association Vonovia, building materials company Heidelberg Cement and technology provider Qiagen N.V. were the top three winners, rising 1.60 percent, 0.60 percent and 0.38 percent respectively.

Vonovia was the most traded share of the day, with a turnover of 499.76 million euros (569.68 million U.S. dollars).

China's Haier, a leading global household appliances manufacturer listed in Frankfurt in 2018, rose 0.67 percent to close at 1.510 euros per share on Thursday. Enditem
