TEHRAN, July 10 (Xinhua) -- An explosion was heard around Mellat Park in northern Tehran early on Saturday, and no casualties were reported, according to local media.

Firefighters have not found any trace about the reported explosion in the Iranian capital, a spokesman for the Fire Department told Iranian Student News Agency.

Early Saturday morning, people contacted the Fire Department announcing that "they heard a terrible noise in the northern part of Tehran," Seyed Jalal Maleki said.

Most of these calls were from the neighborhood of Mellat Park and firefighters were dispatched to the area, he said.

Hamid Reza Goudarzi, deputy security chief for Tehran Province, was quoted by Iranian media as saying that the blast did not cause any human damage, and the cause of the incident is being investigated to confirm whether it was a terrorist act. Enditem
