HOHHOT, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Wuhan had to wait for its first win of the season following an 87-54 loss to Sichuan, while promising center Han Xu scored a career-high 36 points in Xinjiang's 110-57 rout of Fujian in the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league here on Wednesday.

Shao Ting led five Sichuan players in double-figure points with 20. Zhang Wanglai added 14. Li Xiu bagged a team-high 16 points for Wuhan.

Despite a winless record in first stage matches, Wuhan mounted pressure on Sichuan as the two sides tied at 16-16 after the first quarter.

However, Sichuan bucked up defense in the second period and extended its advantage to 10 points with four minutes remaining. Full-court press late in the quarter functioned for Sichuan, which went up 42-31 at halftime.

Sichuan managed to maintain its double-figure lead in the second half through an all-around offensive performance. Zhao Xuetong's jumper with 2:55 left set up a 30-point cushion for Sichuan, which led at 69-39 heading into the final frame and faced little challenge thereafter.

Han shot 14 of 21 from the field to go along with 14 rebounds and four blocks. Xinjiang's backcourt duo of Wang Siyu and Wang Lili combined for 43 points.

After a 23-18 first quarter, Xinjiang came up big in the next 10 minutes, outscoring Fujian 36-13 to build a 28-point halftime advantage as Han dominated the paint.

Xinjiang was never contested in the second half. Another 26-13 third quarter effectively secured its victory.

Also on Wednesday, Peng Szu-Chin's 28 points powered Shanghai to a 78-69 victory over Zhejiang. Enditem
