SHANGHAI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- With melodious chanting by students from China and India, a poetry recital was held via video link to mark the 160th birth anniversary of renowned Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Students from Shanghai Jinyuan Senior High School (SJSHS) and those from its sister school, India's Tagore International School (TIS), participated in the activity on Friday.

At the event, Chinese students recited the Indian giant's masterpiece "the Champa flower" bilingually, while Indian schoolchildren offered a rendition of the poem "Where the mind is without fear," with some adapting it into a song.

"Taking the opportunity of commemorating Tagore's 160th birthday, we feel pleased to meet again through a video connection, especially at a time when India is fighting the pandemic," said Ji Hongxu, president of the SJSHS. "Our care for each other has grown stronger and our hearts have come closer."

Jing Ying, vice president of Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, expressed her concern over teachers and students of TIS staying at home to curb the spread of COVID-19.

"Tagore's poetry can open our heart and mind, and hand in hand we can overcome the difficulties together," she said. Enditem
