BEIJING, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese lawmakers on Monday began discussing a draft law on the protection of wetlands, which requires efforts to encourage social involvement in wetland protection via publicity and education activities.

The draft law was submitted to the ongoing session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for its third reading.

Governments at all levels should raise public awareness of wetland protection through campaigns including a wetland protection day and a week to promote the protection of wetlands, according to the draft.

It also stipulates that governments at all levels and related authorities should publish information on wetland protection in accordance with the law to encourage social supervision. Enditem
